This gem from what is probably the most iconic rum distillery in the world was allowed to mature for 42 years in a simple, used American oak cask. When such a highly potent spirit with extreme ester aromas, like C<>H and HGML, is aged for decades without significant temperature fluctuations or strong wood influences, the most enchanting aromas emerge.
On the nose, fresh pineapple and mangoes are surprisingly joined by European stone fruits. Austere notes of nail polish give way to fresh essential oils such as camphor and bergamot, while subtle Riesling petrol notes further refine the bouquet. A meadow of summer flowers opens up in the mind's eye, with wonderful exotic scents of crushed jasmine petals and patchouli leaves.
On the palate, the acidity and stormy power have turned into an erotic, syrupy, honeyed texture and impressive sweetness, while the slightly medicinal, bittersweet finish slowly dissolves into a long, lingering aftertaste.
Sometimes it is worth celebrating chastiy, keeping one's treasure untouched for half a lifetime. The rough and restless caterpilar transformed into a butterfly of luminous grace.
