Nikka from the Barrel - 51,4%

Photo taken somewhere on a beach

I bought this minimalistic bottle on a flight to Cyprus and was wondering about the cheap price for a cask strength whisky. I'm curious if the quality is just as well as the design.

Nose

Sour cherries from the glass at first. Green apples burnt with brown sugar. There is also furniture polish and a slight hint of leather. After a while it develops and reveals layers of fudge and white chocolate. This is a really elegant and complex nose, excellent work so far.

Palate

What a powerful entry! The sweetness combined with a very creamy, but heavy mouthfeel. It tastes like liquid fudge and vanilla cake at the same time. The alcohol is very well integrated and not present at any stage. But it definitely offers less than the bouquet.

Finish

Quite short with a slight oak bitterness.

Rating

A solid and elegant blend. It fit's perfect in the japanese, fragrant and elegant aroma profile. Beside the fact that it's lacking complexity on the palate and in the finish, it still has a great price-ratio value.
