L`Encantada - Domaine de Bellair 1974 - 45,3%
Picture taken somewhere in Stuttgart
With the Grape of the Art Le Freche we already introduced the independent bottler and producer L'Encantada which was founded by Vincent Cornu and Frédéric Chappe ten years ago (last November they celebrated their anniversary!). The fascination of L'Encantada is the unbelievable selection of different Armagnac styles, which sometimes could not be more different and with which they virtually single-handedly cover the whole microcosm of Armagnac.
Nose
We know it's winter, but the first smell takes us to a lukewarm, late summer orchard in Gascony. The air just vibrates with fruit trees full of overripe fruits like apricots, mirabelles and red apples. Next to them, the scents of wild mint and dark honey are vying with physalis bushes. The combination of overripe fruit, sweetness and light acidity is really fun!
Palate
The impressions from the bouquet intensify on the tongue. Wonderfully oily, warm and smooth, the physalis acidity and the sweet apricots and mirabelles result in a really delicious fruit compote with a twist full. of character! The body is light and the overall impression is nicely balanced.
Finish
A slight sweetness and bitterness linger on the tongue for quite a long time. Well, now we became hungry and must open that fruitjam from Grandma from last autumn.
Rating
This delicious oldie is no substitute for a trip to Gascony, but it does a wonderful job of conjuring up the fertility and richness of this wonderful region into the glass. Now combine that with a freshly baked loaf of bread and Foie Gras and the experience is perfect.
