Ledaig 12 y/o - Present Future - 10th Whisky Show - 58,4%
Picture taken at Roche Bobois Stuttgart
Someone was lucky to get this treasure before it was completely sold out at the honourable Whisky Exchange. We love this psychedelic, futuristic label. The good reputation of this years bottling really precedes through all forums. Let's put this baby under the Whisky Digest's critical scrutiny.
Nose
Good lord, this is some ass kicking stuff! A huge wave of thick and fat smoke clouds combined with a heavy sweetness invade the synapses. We find ourselves on a meadow full of wild mountain herbs like sage, tyhme, mint and camomille..stunnig. Vanilla biscuits. And behind all this, the characteristic Ledaig rubber note of new tires. Crazy, but thrilling combination.
With water: Austereness down, vanillin sugar + freshness up.
Palate
Neat: The fatness continues with a heavy, pure cocoa bitterness. The palate really corresponds to the nose. Purest grapefruit juice seasoned with those mountain herbs again. It tastes fresh like those swiss Ricola candies, but burnt and dipped into petrol afterwards. Marvelously brutal.
With water: Same power, with a little bit more vanillin sweetness.
Finish
Longer than a lord of the rings movie (extended version). Bitter grapefruit and the taste of engine oil from a car repair shop.
Rating
This is a Tarantino Whisky. Lovely and violent at the same time, very entertaining and totally packed with highly sophisticated dialogues. If THIS is the future of whisky, there is no cause for concern (but I'm afraid it's not...)
