Royal Brackla 16 - 40%

Photo taken somewhere in Stuttgart

One interesting fact of the distillitation process of this tradition-rich highland distillery we read: Most of the time of the week they air their pot stills in order to reactivate the copper and to clean them from sulphur residues of the last batch.

Nose

Sour, grassy apples, nice grape marc (or matured grappa), hazelnut or almond liqueur. We cannot decide which nuts are more dominant here. Some salt. And there is something I never had in a whisky before: Tahina sesam paste, which is definitely interesting. Well with 40% abv no water is needed we guess (flat joke).

Palate

Delicate sweetness with the slight apple sourness we had on the nose before. A little bit too light and flat in our opinion. The second sip reveals some salted caramel biscuits. And there it ends.

Finish

Short with a few drops of grapefruit juice.

Rating

Seriously, what shall we do with this one? One the one hand the nose was really pleasant and entertaining, while on the other hand the palate was a little disappointing. And it really doesn't help that we just recently tried the legendary "Green" Brackla 1975 at this years Whisky Show in London which was stellar.
10% more Abv would have helped here for sure (and even more so at this price level!) What a waste of potential.
