Glenrothes 10 y/o - Dràm Mòr - 58%
Photo taken somewhere in Spain
Since we are having a soft spot for young independent bottlers, we hereby present Dràm Mòr, founded by a married couple who just released their first single cask of the Speyside Distillery Glenrothes. Let's find out which cask they used to lay their foundation.
Nose
The first impression is very fresh, clean, balanced and truly elegant, with plenty of bright and sour fruits, mostly Granny Smith apples and grape marcs, accompanied by some meadow flowers (violets and lavender, just to name a few). Quite impressive to be honest.
With water: Becoming even more floral, like a fine soap now. We really love the nose and are faintly reminiscent of the fabulous Rosebank we enjoyed on the Whisky Show last year (kind of a little brother). In general, we would straightly classify that dram in the Lowland region during a blind tasting. After 15 minutes in the glass there are even some buttery and cake-y notes.
Palate
58% seriously? This filly is smooth and silky like a cat's skin, with a light body and a pronounced honey sweetness. But it's not Manuka, more bright like Acacia honey. Hazelnut creme and lemon cake show up. Easy palate, but really delicate and perfectly balanced. With water: Getting surprisingly spicier, with no new flavours.
ғɪɴɪsʜ
Medium long and waxy, with a pleasant and slight walnut bitterness.
Finish
Medium long and waxy, with a pleasant and slight walnut bitterness.
Rating
10 years huh? It's almost a shame they bottled this cask so early. What would have happened if they had given it five or even ten years more. A whole flower field we suppose. Anyway, a powerful start for this young label! But like Freddy Quinn said, 'nothing is as old as yesterday's success.' So keep on doing the good work!
